How do I learn to play?
You can learn the overall objectives and movements of Vortex Wars by following the tutorial at http://www.vortexwars.com. There is a big grey-silver button upon login: "How To Play". Otherwise, if you have specific unanswered questions still:
  1. Play and learn as you go.
  2. Search this forum. Likely someone has had the same question, and received an answer.

-----

Are there any tips for game play?
There are many strategies that are refined by different players. As a noob, you may be very unaware of them. Some people will share, and others won't. You might have some luck starting here though:
http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=896

-----

I purchased an upgrade, but it is not working. What can I do?
Upgrades you purchase (like bonus races, man replenishment delimiters, and boosts) may appear not to be functional or available after purchase. There are usually two specific reasons your upgrades are not working.
  1. Make sure you understand the upgrade effects thoroughly. Maybe you do not understand what you have purchased. Ask another player in game to explain if you feel lost.
  2. If all else fails, try reloading the http://www.vortexwars.com/ page and logging back in. Now give it a try.
If either fails to work, search the forum for your problem to see if it has been posted and what solutions may be offered. No thread found? Create one and report your problem in this category. It will be addressed: http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8

-----

I want to report a game problem.
Most likely, if you are encountering a problem, it is NOT NEW. Others have encountered it as well, and likely have already reported such on this forum. Search the forum first please! A few known problems that cannot be solved here are:
  1. "I am getting disconnected." Yes, sometimes this happens. It is likely the server, and should not happen too often.
  2. "I cannot connect to my account." Give it a few minutes and try logging in then. Usually just a temporary server issue.
Otherwise, if you are confident this is a new issue that no one has reported it, please post it on the forum for review in this category: http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8

-----

Why should I register an account?
A few reasons why you should register an account on Vortex Wars.
  1. You get stats
  2. Access to certain games is easier
  3. You get shards

-----

What is XP?
XP is Experience Points. You earn XP by playing games. As you earn XP, you will gain levels. Each level requires more XP than the previous to level up.

-----

What is the formula for calculating the XP needed for a given level?
The current formula is 15n^2+175, where is n is the level you currently have.
For example, to level up from 38 to 39: (15 x (38 x 38)) + 175 = 21,835 XP.

-----

What is the formula for calculating the in game XP earned?
  1. +1 XP for a territory conquered.
  2. Another +1 XP for a territory conquered by a lower troop count (i.e. 5 v 6 and you win).
  3. Performance XP determined by 5*n-5*(r-1), where n=number of starting players and r=rank when you die (or if you win you are rank 1).
  4. All XP earned (from above) multiplied by 2 ONLY IF you are a Premium Member.

-----

What is the formula for calculating the in game XP earned if I DRAW?
  • If you are in first place with XP at draw, you get 1/2 of your XP, regardless of amount of player's drawing.
  • If you are not first place, 1/2 of the first place opponent's XP is awarded equally to the remaining players.

-----

What are shards?
Shards is a form of Vortex Wars credits/money.

-----

What do I do with shards?
You can use shards to purchase upgrades to improve and alter your game play abilities.

-----

How can I earn more shards?
  1. Play games. Each game you play you will get shards.
  2. Login daily. Each day you will be awarded shards for coming back.

-----

How are shard earnings calculated from gameplay?
  1. You get 1 shard per territory you capture that is controlled by another player.
  2. You get a cumulative 10 shards per consectutive day you log in, to a maximum of 50. (1st day 10, 2nd day 20, etc.)
  3. When you level up, you get 10 shards x the level you just got to.

-----

How are shard earnings calculated when I draw?
Nothing changes. You keep the shards you would have earned without draw.

-----

Can I pay money to get shards?
No, but you can pay money to get War Coins. Login to http://www.vortexwars.com/ and go to the shop. There you can use Paypal to purchase as much coin as you want, which will allow you to buy anything offered. Mind you, there are a few purchases that can ONLY be made with War Coins, not shards. So, it may be to your benefit to drop 20-40 bucks and get a little coin. This does, after all, support the developer of the game we all love.

-----

Where is this shop I keep hearing about?
The shop becomes available on the main page of http://www.vortexwars.com/ once you reach level 3 and are logged in.

-----

What are bonus races?
Several of the purchasable races contain no advantage, like the race you start off with: Elves. However other races have unique war abilities. Using shards or War Coins, you can acquire more races (with and without advantages). Here are the races and their attributes. Dragons can only be purchased with Coin (not shards). You can purchase races on http://www.vortexwars.com/ in the Shop.:
  • Elves
  • Legionaire
  • Snow Giant
  • Soldiers
  • Robots
  • Elementals
  • Pirates
  • Ninjas
  • Angels = +5% Defence
  • Demons = +5% Offence
  • Insectoids = +10% Army Replenishment
  • Vampires = +5% Defense, +5% Offense, -10% Army Replenishment
  • Pumpkins = -5% Defense, -5% Offense, +15% Army Replenishment
  • Arachnids = +5% Offense, +10% Army Replenishment
  • Reptiles = +5% Defense, +10% Army Replenishment
  • Snowmen = +2 boosts added to your paid boosts at each game start.
  • Reindeer = +15% more XP at end of game.
  • Santas = +25% shards bonus at end of game.
  • Natives = Region with 1 army has stregnth of 2 when attacked.
  • Undead = Attack boosts not consumed when attacking with boost and win on first attack.
  • Terminators = +15% attack bonus when attacking with a smaller army than opponent.
  • Blade masters = +10% attack bonus when using attack boosts.
  • Dark knights = +10% defense bonus when using defense boosts.
  • Dragons = +5% Defense, +5% Offense, +10% Army Replenishment
  • Aliens = Premium Members Only unique race (no advantage, just looks cool)

-----

How are racial capacity bonuses calculated?
There are 6 races that have capacity bonuses (or alterations); Insectoids +10%, Vampires -10%, Pumpkins +15%, Arachnids +10%, Reptiles +10%, and Dragons +10%. You basically take base number for your attack/defense rolls or your spawn rate and multiply this by 1.05 for a 5% bonus, 1.1 for a 10% bonus, and 1.15 for a 15% bonus, rounded down. That means that you won't get a bonus troop for insectoids unless you would normally gain 10 troops.

9 x 1.1 = 9.9 --> 9
10 x 1.1 = 11 --> 11
*Please note for that the racial penalties, totals are rounded up. Multiply by .95 for a 5% penalty, and .9 for a 10% penalty.

-----

How do the troop capacity upgrades work?
At the end of your turn, your reinforcements are placed in your troop reserve until they are placed onto the field. This is also used to store excess troops if all of your territories are 8's. Normally, this has a maximum capacity of 20 troops. The four upgrades increase this amount by 10 each, so a player with all four upgrades can place/store up to 60 troops at once.

-----

How do I use the social system?
To open the social tab, click "social" at the bottom of the screen when you are logged in and not in a game.
To add a friend, go to users, type the name of the person you want to friend into the search box and click "search". You can now see their stats (unless their profile is private, in which case you can't). Click "add friend" to add them to your friends list. It will now show up in the "friends" tab and tell you:
  1. Their name and rank.
  2. Their rating.
  3. Whether they are online or offline.
  4. When they last logged in.
  5. If they are online, it will tell you whether they are in a game or the lobby, and give you the option to join them.
  6. You can also click options --> detail to get a more complete list of their stats.
To remove a person from your friends list, click options --> remove.
To friend someone in the middle of a game, click their name and click "add friend".
To add someone to your blacklist, or "ban list" you must first click their name in the lobby or in a game. Next click "ban player" and type the reason. Click "ban". We hope you don't have to do this, but it's there if you do.
To remove a person from your ban list, open the "social" tab, click "ban list" and click "unban".

Another Vortex Wars player is really bothering me, or I need to report a user. What can I do?
Most of the time, there is nothing you can do but beat him down in the game :D. Also, Use Your Mute Button! You can turn off any specific user's comments by clicking the green check next to thier name in the lobbies or during game play. However, if the player is consistently using derogatory terms, or is acting out of hand in some extreme fashion, you can report the user here. Stating your case and providing documentation in detail helps and is usually required (such as a screenshot of the abuse) before any action would be made, as action against the reported user can and will only be made on the most valid of reasons and facts. This would also be the place to report moderators if you feel you are being unfairly targeted.

Also, if you have complaints about specific users, and wish to notify others of unfair tatcis, or if you simply lack any proof to your claims but wish to warn others, you can want to report it here:

I have an idea for the game. Can I suggest it here?
If you have an idea for the game... your comments and suggestions are welcome. But first, please:
  1. Make sure it is not on the list of ideas that will not EVER be implemented. See here: http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=927
  2. Check this thread to see what Lopdo has on his to-do list: http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=63
  3. Make sure it is not an idea that has already been suggested. Search the forum first! If you find nothing, then create a thread with your concept in this category: http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=8

-----

I am interested in my statistics. What do they mean in comparison to other players?
As it stands, Vortex Wars stats are lacking a bit... but in time will be more comprehensive. You may be interested in checking out this thread in the mean time:
http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=981

-----

I am interested in rolling probabilities. Is there any information on this?
Here is a few threads where this topic is discussed and argued:

http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=966

-----

I am interested game mode settings, what is better, and why?
I started a thread here just for that. Feel free to input your feelings, however, before you do, please try all game settings out over several games to form a rational opinion before posting your opinion.

-----

Are there Vortex Wars Tournaments?
At the moment, there is nothing built into the game. However, if you would like to participate in tournaments, organization is occurring here:

How to Play in 1v1q?

Rolls you got shows how many units you kill from enemy and how many you lose your own, this is why sometimes players win terriotry even if lose, and, lose in battle even if win.

explain now how this is working

ex. rolls: 4:3

means You kill from enemy 4 units, and you lose 3 from your, if you have enough units left to take region, you do it (remember that one unit stay in region from where you made attack).

now more "Light" on this "Dark" setting...
true is that is very radnomly game setting
true is that 8 will lose with 2
but this is very rare occur event
sometimes will occur 0:0 in rolls, than, both sides lose same amount of units (number units from "weaker" one)
ex2. unit 5 attacking unit 3,
rolls: 0:0
left units: 3 for first one, 1 for second one.

This is very clear setting, easy to understand, but still need luck here,
also,
this setting is most fair
powers from races do not work here, ex. 5% attack bonus,
only power what is working here is spawn bonus.

Note*: shield boost do not work too good here, if player with much higher number of units, example 8, attacking shielded 3, he will win in one roll.
How?
Is easy, he lose rolls, but he killed all units from enemy
example 8 vs 3
rolls: 3:4,
lost roll, but attacker gain territory by annihilate enemy units, shield didn't work here (rolls 3:4).
units left is 1 (region from attack was) and 3 (new region).

Also, a question about the new rating system should be added, I believe.

Get the picture up --> right-click on it --> "copy image URL" --> go to post --> ctrl + v --> select entire link --> click "Img" on top bar (where you do bold/colours etc.). :)

I think mostly with photoshop. Personally, I've never made one, because I know it'll turn out looking really, really bad.

Photoshop isn't a website. It's a program. But I'm pretty sure it costs money, so you would have to torrent it.
