Strategy and Tactics--For all Levels

Postby ZANE » Sat Jun 18, 2011 6:32 am

Ok, so I've been playing with a lot of people who may have played for a bit but still have no idea how to strategize or win rounds without having to create alliances.

This thread is for discussion. Anyone can post their tactics or strategies

Ok. So I'm known for playing "Party Games". Another player who plays a lot of party games is Noviota. I usually don't like to play heads up games because they are too predetermined. More times than not, Player 1 will win because he can choose where he wants to be on the map which will lead him to have a vantage point to gain more troops and have the edge.

This guide is made specifically for HC Party Games

Placement:
-Try to put yourself in a spot where you will not be open to too many players to attack you.(The middle of the map is the worst because you will be the only one people can attack)
-Try to put yourself in a spot where there are choke points. That way you can put up defense while you spawn your troops to fight.

Early Game:
-You want to spread out as much as possible without putting yourself in danger(i.e. exposing yourself enough to put your opponent in a position to take a lot of your land)

Mid Game:
-You are going to want to own as much territory as possible
-You need to be careful not to let your opponent bring out a strong army to take your territories
-Overall you just want to be keeping the most troops out of anyone.
-By attacking up to their 1 and then stopping, you limit the amount of land they can take back from you to gain more troops. let their 8 sit there useless until you're strong enough to take it out easier.
-You can attack up to their strong unit if you will have their number beat or -1 by the time you get there. You can usually expect atleast one unit to spawn.

Late Game:
-This is when you have all your territories to 8
-If you are stronger than your opponent, you should try to create as much surface area as possible, if you are weaker, then try to create choke points and gradually try to catch up to your opponent.
-Make sure that at the end of your turn, all your territories will spawn to 8s. You do not want your opponent to take your territory easily when it is lower.

Key Points:
-Don't extend into enemy territory
-Take advantage of choke points
-Win by keeping spawning and keeping the most troops

Alliances
-Don't create alliances just for the sake of alliances. Alliances will naturally form on their own if one player gets too strong, you have to focus on weakening that player to get your and come out victorious. This is not really an alliance. It is more like working together to achieve a common goal. Don't expect the other player to not attack you either. The short-term alliance will usually end when one of you becomes the strongest. So don't trust anyone!
-And try not to create alliances. They will ruin the game and take out the skill. Afterall... you want to win. You don't want to get 2nd.

This was all off the my head real quick. I will add more to it later and put up pictures when i get the chance.

WHY WOULD I WANT TO PUT UP MY STRATEGIES (yes, I said strategies....;D)!!??!?! I know you aren't forcing us to or anything like that, but wouldn't it be a good strategy not to put your strategy up for show? BTW I will also help with pictures.
This too shall pass.

haha. I'm just putting some basics out there for unskilled or new people to learn the ropes. And then they can build off of that. I think everyone has their own strategies though. So in that way you're right.
