Can we please get rid of ratings??
Now that ratings are here i try so so so hard not to get die so quickly in the beginning because i don't want a low rating.
Before ratings came and if i didn't get the 3rd, 2nd, or 1st it wouldn't matter to me much because at least i tried.
but now if we keep losing right away our ratings would get so low and it just not a good feeling to have a low rating.
Ratings kind of stop me from playing more games because i don't want to get lower than i already am.
Lets face it, the majority of us don't win most of our games.

Sometimes when the battles are very long and you are about to die but your opponents just won't kill you, you have to stick around until they decide to kill you. sometimes you would have to wait for soooo long because you don't wanna surrender or else you get more points taken off your ratings.

I can't just simply ignore it, because it's there...

okay so if i can't get my request past then shouldn't we have the choice to have ratings or not??
that way those who want to play with ratings actually have to worry about ratings than those who don't want ratings.

(i'm thinking i'm ganna get mostly disagreements but i really do think we should change this)

There's already about 4 threads for this, and others similar. The point is, we don't want them completely removed, we just want to be able to hide them or whatever.

Actually I don't think the choice thing is a bad idea and I've never thought of that. Seems good, you go into a game with other people who want rating and don't get affected. And of course, you don't effect the rating gain/loss. +1 for the idea

I think I've been the only one who's expressed my approval of the rating system actually, even if it is somewhat flawed.

A good compromise would be that you could enter a ratings-free mode from your profile, but you can't earn XP and/or shards. That would probably keep people from disregarding the system entirely.

then whats the point of playing then? if they did that then i would just give up my vortex wars life because i don't want rating. this would stop me from playing because if i turn ratings off then i can't earn anything

AxemBlue, your idea is interesting... I sometimes chose to play as Guest to avoid this high Rating chase, but:
- as a Guest your are often kicked from games
- as a Guest you are too weak in bonus active games, and I like to play with all options active

But I can get tony's argument: it could be interesting to me to play 'out of points system' as I already own a couple of races, upgrades and so on. Now if I still had to earn these.....

You could say that anyway. You're not really going to get anything from playing VW, but it's a game, it's not FOR getting anything out, it's for the enjoyment.

I think an easy fix would be to just make the effects of rating much more subtle. right now winning and losing give large amounts of rank. Reducing the size of the scale would make it harder to judge a player on their rating e.g. most players fit within the boundary of 800-2200 rating (on avarage), the range of this could be decreased to something line 1300-1700 by making rating changes smaller.
