Special events and rewards ideas?

I came up with an idea that maybe if we had special events in forums like contests or something and if you get 1st, 2nd or 3rd
you get a reward like shards or something.
Maybe this will help promote people to come here to the forums??
I don't really know if this will work but hey it's worth a shot.
And we have to make the rewards worth coming here for or else nobody will come.
