Option to turn ratings off or on in create a game menu.

I would quite like to see the option to turn the ratings system off when making a game so that a game doesn't affect your ratings.
Firstly I think it has taken some of the enjoyment out of the game, I used to just jump into games happy go lucky and be fine whatever the outcome, happy to build up my xp all the time.
Now I am going into games worrying that I might be the unlucky one that gets placed right next to and even unluckier to get put out first or second turn, which happens often in games and is down to pure luck, yet achieves such harsh rating deductions.

A few examples if I may.

I just finished a game before writing this post where I was blue (2nd) and teal (7th) decided to place right next to me and I was unlucky enough to be out 1 turn later by an unlucky roll for me and a lucky roll for my opponent. I took -63 rating for this. Yet only the other day I was present in a game, I had a good start, got beaten back almost to the point of death, made a rather astounding recovery (even if I do say so myself) and won the match beating out 4 other players who all should have been easily capable of wiping me out whilst I was down. What was my reward for this? +17 rating.

So far in my experience the ratings system is highly unbalanced in favour of the negative. and would love if it was done away with altogether yet would be perfectly happy to be able to create a game where I can just disregard it, and be happy with playing a game for the fun of it. without having to worry about losing massive amounts of the new magic number within seconds of starting a game.

I agree, would be awesome to have the option to play without it. When the rating bug was going on, quite a lot of people said how much more relaxed it was playing without having to worry about it, myself included.

Maybe a simple poll could be created? Ratings: Yay or Nay.

Sure, I am one of the recurrent poster about this subject, so of course I more than warmly support such idea.

Well, on my side I don't care too much for my own Rating. If it's low, never mind, it'll get up again later. My opinion is that if you don't play in a specifically 'R-oriented' way, you can anyway hardly go over 2000, you'll wander in the 1700-1900 area (probably most players above 2000 have changed their gameplay and strategy significantly since R introduction - am I wrong ?) But my biggest concern is, precisely, how this fear of losing Rating influences players, so that the gameplay is itself affected at last.

Lopdo, the idea to introduce some Rating system was definitely good, as LVL is more an indication of time spent accumulating experience than actual skills. I have explained elsewhere in this forum (http://www.vortexwars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2579) why I think the current system is not suited for multiplayer online games, as least not as long as you can see anyone's rating during the game. This is just my opinion and in no way an absolute truth.

However now a significant number of people start to consider, like I am, that the game is more fun without Rating in mind. So maybe one (or both) of the proposed options (hide Rating during games and/or play without affecting Rating) can be an intermediate solution to satisfy them (us), without completely removing this Rating system, while a better alternative can possibly be found... Maybe only a small adaptation of the existing Rating idea could work, wee just need time to think about it, and have the most possible fun playing until then :)

I agree, more second spot hunters now... and less joy in this game:/
