Mod system.

Postby Karen219 » Tue Nov 22, 2011 12:01 am

Hello :)

Instead of mods being able to enter any game to spectate and chat without any reason or invite. I was thinking maybe a mod call system could work better. That way if there was a member being abusive or cheating etc. Players could use the system to alert a mods assistance is needed, a mod could enter the game and see with their own eyes what is going on and decide on action. Of course mods won’t always be available, but I’m sure it could help some situations.

That is all :)

I plan to add alert button, but I also plan to allow everyone to spectate (as it was requested many times) so I am not sure what to do about your concerns with privacy... hmm, maybe I'll add setting that will allow spectators in the game
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

That would be good. A simple "allow spectators" option, would make me happy. :)

also a notice in the game chat in white letters: "*USER ID* is now a spectator in your game. I feel like an idiot when I say stupid things about school with my friends in the game, then a mod pops up out of nowhere to tell me: "nice move".

Mods who enter games shouldn't be noticed (example a user is breaking rules and see's that the mod entered the game) they will imediately do nothing to therefore give no proof of misbehavior, as if the mod is not detected, the person will just continue to do what he does to have the mod enter the game, therefore allowing the mod to take APPROPRIATE action which will start by a warning.

maybe just have the alert option but not show when the mod is in the room or only show that the mod is there for the person who alerted

I think that it might be hard to have the mod show up for just the single person. However, I like the idea of the mod not showing up in the game; I think that's a great idea for the reasons Fiendess mentioned.

By not showing up, do you mean, not being able to spectate? or that their coming should not be advertised.

Did you happen to read George Orwell's 1984? It's a very good read and a great insight into the human mind and the fallacies we have about utopia and security. Something that struck me as intense was the fact that cameras were installed into people's homes. They were not allowed to have sex without thinking of the party leader, not allowed to own a book, to show a tear, or a sad face. If anyone was seen twitching, they were taken away, never to be seen again. There were only 2% of the high pillars of the government that were in charge of watching people in real-time in their house, but the point was not that they were watched all times, it was that they had the possibility to be watched at all times without knowing that they were being watched at all times. The government was thinking they did the right thing, and indeed, the only crimes in the country, were the crimes committed by the government itself. The actual population had no means nor hope of even stealing a smile from each other, at risk of high treason. Whilst the situation is different, the means you propose to achieve your situation, is similar in ideal and in practice. It is wrong for practical reasons as well as moral reasons for situations of (yet again,) abuse. Whilst mods can be deemed trustworthy by fellow mods, the mods/admins of previous forums/games/mmos are amongst the most self righteous and corrupt individuals I have had the opportunity to have a conversation with.

I have the right to know when I am being spied upon and I can only be watched with my explicit permission.

If policemen enter my house and find weed, they actually cannot testify in court for that weed, because they are not legally able to enter my house without a warrant and a warrant can only be obtained if reasonable proof is suspected/found. In the case of a warrant, the owner of the house is not alerted that his house will be searched, but he has to be present (thus aware) in the event of a search. What they do in all the action movies, when they enter the house and disregard whether the person is there or not, is strictly illegal. (<-- Please extract the general idea from my text, not details, as I know some users are fond of doing.)

I meant that it could be hard to announce the mod's arrival only to the person who called the mod. However, I don't know much about this, so it very well could be possible.

By not showing up, do you mean, not being able to spectate? or that their coming should not be advertised.

His or her coming should not be shown publicly. They should definitely be allowed to spectate.

ehh, wouldn't it be better to have a warning that theres a mod, but have a randomized program that could state a mod is there even when there isn't so people wouldn't be bad and users would have privacy. This would appease both sides.

ONce again I'm victorious in this debate with one quick strike of my words. Thank you, thank you * bows to the crowd*
