Black plays 6 ... N-a6 The more favoured move to play here for black is P-a6, allowing for 7 ... P-b5

7 P-e4 This sets up the centre for White. Whites pawns, which interlock in the middle are strong (Control the middle, control the game). White also threatens to reach equality in material with Bxc4.

Is that so? I may be wrong, but i recall that czech variation was a quite common answer to alapin as well.

Apologies for the wait, I had to produce a paper.

Smyslov Variation

B-e6, interesting. This had me thinking. Not the usual reply. Maybe a learnt variation.

I reply with a quiet Bishop move.

N-B4. Who put than knight on the rim anyway? "I knight on the rim is dim!".

Apologies if my move is crap, I haven't played in a while :)

N-b4 is to be avoided, it's better to move the queen to a5 Joshua ;)

Two Moves, both have merits.

I would agree with N-b4 to be a slightly better move. The opening theory though is Joshua's. There maybe a thematic idea in Joshua's moves with bringing his Knight to a6.

I castle king-side, freeing the pin by the Queen on the Knight at c3, against the white King on e1. This allows my Knight to once again defend the Pawn at e4, which is being attacked by the black Knight at f6.

Open to the forum for the next move.
