Just live with the times and adapt - the developer of the game decides what is best for him, this update is probably far from last, so be more patient. Lopdo and his team look through suggestions and implement them if possible/logical. Here is a shortened list of features that will stabilize the current situation:

- whisper in chat
- friend list
- tournaments
- achievements
With private games + friend lists you can make the game personal with people you trust and know. Since you might be "friends" you can apply simple ideas such as - no bonus races etc.
The whisper in chat will help you gang up on the big bully with super upgrades, make a backstabbing alliance, lie and deceive - the game will become more shadowy and fun.
If tournaments are implemented, there will be basic rules for tournaments - level range/race range/upgrades, therefore you can choose what to go up against
Finally, the achievements will be a goal in the game that is most likely to be awarded with shards, to get an extra income (especially for beginners who have 0 achievements to get quick income for a race like angels/demons/insectoids or premium 1week or a storage upgrade for large maps)
People of principle
Some are threatening to leave the game, mis-advertise and so on. An analogy to the situation would be a Santa (since it's close to Xmas). Image Santa brings you good stuff every year as in good updates, people play and are cheerful. Then one year Santa runs out of money and he brings you something less awesome. Then, instead of being understanding, you start shouting out that you don't believe in him and that everyone should as well. Is that fair in principle?
So instead of going over yourselves, you should be more helpful and suggest features, that would help develop the game further

The Novice experience
Well if a person starts to play the game, you get at least 800 shards quickly enough. Worst case scenario, just log in every day for 5 days, you'll have quite enough for a weekly premium. Double XP with a low level means quicker leveling, even more shards. Angels/Demons are substantial in a fight against other races and cost only 1200 shards. If you get excited about the game, you will probably spend a few dollars on some upgrades/races and thus develop the game and make it easier to compete with higher levels. A host can control who he lets in, some people think of game names such as "no races/no bonuses" and kick the disobedient one's.
Simple enough, I'm not trying to prove a point or to cause a trolling/angry debates, I'm just asking you to keep it simple and less chaotic. I am not agreeing on the 1.8 update, simply put, I just deal with it and don't act like an asshole to be superior to lower levels. Forum based fights and revolutionists will only lead to a game stagnation:
