Why is there no screening process for Modship?

Postby Captain_Locke » Sun Nov 20, 2011 4:59 pm

I've learned recently that mods can check our I.P addresses with little to no effort; while this may be useful for getting rid of spammers and trolls who make alternate accounts just to bypass bans... It's also more than slightly concerning that just about anybody could come along and be able to do it. Shouldn't there be a screening process, or a Warning that our I.P address can, and will be given to any Jack or Jane Doe that Fiendess or Lopdo feels "trustworthy" enough to have that responsibility?

Definitely agree there should be a more thorough screening process especially considering the damage that could be done with IP Addresses if they were to fall into the wrong hands.

I assume you're talking about forum mods, as I have no way of checking your IP in-game. (I'm an in-game mod, btw)

The only forum mod other than Lopdo and Fiendess is Techgump, who was given the spot for being a very knowledgeable and trustworthy poster. His "screening process" was his forum conduct prior to being modded. (Besides, it's not that hard to change your IP address....)

Lopdos the game owner, the mega admin, and only admins can see IP.

I will not tolerate IP abuse from my admins, your computers are safe in my hands.

Have no worries people ^^

I suddenly feel a wave of dread come over me.. Fiendess just said that we're safe in her hands....

haha I'm kidding. I know you're doing a great job and wouldn't let anything like that happen.

You won't tolerate it, yet how will you know if it's being abused? It's like saying: "My pet wolf won't harm your sheep, don't worry about them." it's nice that you say they won't, and that you'll do something about it if they do...But why give the "wolf" a chance in the first place?

We should totaly remove any weapons from police. They might hurt someone!
Scalpels should be prohibited while surgery! Someone might cut the wrong spot.
Bad marks should be disallowed at schools! Teachers might be biased!

Thats called loan trust.
