Several questions regarding the new update:
How many turns does the XP penalty apply for?
Does it affect how many shards you get even if you leave early?
Can you lose a level? I'm just wondering...
Does the penalty get doubled if you have premium?

I have some of the answers for you, but not all. So, I'll let someone else answer for you. But, I just had a thought about the exp loss. What if you lose to someone when you place next to them? First turn: place next to them. Second turn: defeated. Would they have to stay and watch for a turn to avoid losing exp?

It doesn't apply if you lost. Just if you quit/disconnect.

30xp penalty for first 3 turns (I think I wrote that into announcements)
no, shards are no affected in any way
you can't lose a level, you will stop at 0 xp
no, penalty is always 30
