we are at an obvious disadvantage. we don't have as much experience, we don't have "storage upgrades" or strong races, so we can't win any way we look at it. have any of you (without cheating) learned a way to beat the older, stronger, more advanced players? Also i know that allying reallt tics-off alot of people, so that's out as well.
i would like to hear what you have to say.

If you create matches, turn upgrades off. It helps a LOT. When playing against other players, play the custom levels with total regions of 40 or less, so that they can't stock up much more than you. It helps a lot. It's what I did before I got the upgrades. Attrition is also a better mode when you're lower leveled (in MY opinion), because it allows you to kill off their troops instead of (if you fail) simply losing only your own (unless you get super unlucky).

As for when you buy races and upgrades, I'd buy the first upgrade before you get a new race, personally.

Because of the weakening attrition requires more strategy to be really good at it. If you know how to hurt them the most with minimum use of troops you can basically maintain a base even with inferior supply regions.

Very true! I forgot to mention that . While it does require more strategy, I've had much more luck in attrition as opposed to hardcore (which I normally play).

Another way to get better is to spectate A LOT. Usually when I'm AFK'ing and have VW open, I'll be spectating a match or another and looking at varying strategies. It all helps you learn quicker and become a better player. :D

Also, you may want to try switching up your race to get the achievement for winnig with 3 different races types. It will gain you more xp.

The first 10 levels are very easy to reach. You just have to play basically, not even win much.

And it is no wonder I suck at HC, I have terrible luck. I always do much better at Att, or 1v1q.

A tip about 1v1q, it actually isn't confusing if you understand how it works. The number shown on the top left is the number of units in the enemy territory that were killed, and on the right is the number from your territory that was killed. It just makes it to where you do not see the dice rolls, and do not have to calculate how many you lost. What can be confusing is when you lose more men than the other player and it make the losing sound, yet you win the territory, or vise versa - you get the winning sound and lose. This is because those sounds are determined on whether you lost more units, not if you won the territory. Here are examples:
Example A - How the "rolls" work: 1 vs 3 Your territory lost 3 units, while your enemy's lost 1. If he only has 1 unit, you take it. You will never lose all of your units unless you are attacked, so you cannot roll an offensive turn like this if you only have 3. If you have 4, I am not really sure what happens... Maybe you both just go to 1, that seems logical, but don't let me confuse you.
If your opponent had more than 1 unit, you did not take over his territory, but you took away 1, and lost 3 yourself.
Now, if the opponent was attacking, he would have only lost 1 unit from the attack, and you would lose 3, but you only lose the territory if you had 3 (or less) in it.
Keep in mind that 1v1q is much like Attrition, but without the large dice rolls.
Example B - Winning when you lose more units - As said above, if you have, say 8 units, and your opponent has 1, and you attack and the "roll" is 1 vs 3, you lose 3 units, but you still take over the territory. So the territory you attacked from would have 1 in it, and the attacked territory would now have 4.
Example C - Losing when you lost less units: This puts you in the opponent's shows from the last example. If your opponent attacks your 1 with a 5 and it rolls 3 vs 1, he will lose 3 units, but take the territory, making both the territory he attacked from, and the territory he attacked each have 1 unit.

If this is confusing in any way, or you want more help understanding 1v1q, you can contact me through PM.
(I am probably the only one left who understands/enjoys it, even though I do not play it as often anymore.)

Problem with 1vs1q is games always have to be small because its rare to be able to get 8 players to play. Also because of how it works, attack and defence % gains have no effect, so a race like Angels or demons have no benefit, but reptiles and Arachnids would gain a 10% spawn boost. The best to use would probably be undead (or pumpkins, but they are a holiday race)

A good reason to play it as a low level.

Furthermore, I believe Natives do not work correctly in 1v1q.

Try out some big maps with your friends to get the conquer achievements faster. Emperor was one of my early achievements only some month after I started. And that xp reward is so much more worth it than noob no more or win achievements that takes FOREVER. Also the luck achievements: if you use boost and win the roll and conquer the region it won't count if you lost one of lost boost rolls. That gives you bigger chance to win.
The guards gaze at you:"Prepare yourselves" If you get the game that is from you are awesome.

Natives are completely disabled, as are attack and defense bonus. That's why Pumpkins are so great, because you get 15% spawn and nothing subtracted.

I didn't make too much of a point on it as they are Halloween only - bad for new players.
