 Tell that to my college professors!

I can't explain the difference between ordinary life and people who work in the English industry without having to send a great deal of time. Simply put your statement is incorrect. The people who may accept Urban dictionary as an dictionary are not part of the official English language. Urban dictionary is only a web based collection of definitions from the people. I am guessing you are pretty young because older people understand that before we had the internet we looked to official sources of language to get definitions not asking our peers for what they collectively think it means  Although nice argument simple and lean to the bone but interesting and entertaining ;)

And I am not a native english speaker. You do realize those academic dictionaries are updated way too slowly? A language is a living thing. If not the people who speaks the language defines and some academics tells us what words mean all the time something seems wrong too me.

And Wikipedia is a website that allows users to collectively define things. You can't use that to support your argument.

"In the context of Urban Dictionary, "definitions" include not only literal definitions, but also descriptions. As such, "to define" a word or phrase on Urban Dictionary does not necessarily entail providing a strict definition; merely a description of some aspect of the word or phrase could suffice for inclusion in the dictionary.
Originally, Urban Dictionary was intended as a dictionary of slang or cultural words or phrases not typically found in standard dictionaries, but it is now used to define any word or phrase.[7] Words or phrases on Urban Dictionary may have multiple definitions, usage examples, and tags."

Yes, I understand the Irony given wiki is also a user content created however the word insanity is not defined as "performing the same action expecting a different outcome" That is only a way many people use to describe the word. I'm not sure how else to explain the difference between the official definition and the difference between people in general think what the words truly means.

Finally next time your at your public library look it up in an ACTUAL Dictionary and I already know your definition is NOT there!

I suggest you read the ENTIRE comment I posted I already addressed that concern. WIKI is a site of information and collective knowledge just like Urban Dictionary.com is. Even if you do "veto" and not make use of wiki in the context there is still no proof that Urban Dictionary is at all any credible source in being an official source for definition of words in the English language. Clearly you must understand this concept or did you not know there was an offical means for defining the English language. Granted many people go out and make words have meanings that otherwise would not but the word insanity already has a meaning that is officially recognized. For a person who knows so much about grammar I am confused as to why you don't know this...

oh and PS. yes noticed I complemented you! I'm sure you will respond with an insult towards me because I am the rude one of course!

Lancestar2 maybe if your post didn't contain so many demeaning words which could be interpreted as an insults , your words may not be direct insult but can be misconceived as such , as for your tasteless joke i hope thats the last of that kind.Yes , you have every right for an opinion but your the one arguing all the time, no-ones stopping you joining this community but your ways are too provoking and insulting.Maybe its you who should try and change his ways, having a debate is not a war but a mutual exchange of opinions.

YES language is a living thing but the English language is defined in official and proper ways. At times the language can be confusing as there are many different means to words and different understandings and different content of which to say the words. Confusing indeed, however a general rule you should remember is that sites like urban dictionary are useful to help define NEW words such as slang and jargon used in many workplaces. As in time those words eventually are added to the official English language however when it comes to words that have already been defined they will next to never be added into the official language as a definition.

English is my 1st language and only language as I don't have a need for a 2nd. While people may think that is what the word means the English language has rules and guild lines (thanks to the British they keep it proper ;) ) Keep in mind the following:

The official definition of the word "definition" (Oxford Dictionary) a statement of the exact meaning of a word, especially in a dictionary. Of course you could argue that Urban Dictionary is an Dictionary because they simply write it on there website     but in reality the Webster and Oxford Dictionary are the main sources for defining words and there meaning. There may be a few lesser known offical sources but for the most part Webster is the Offical source with Oxford being an alternative. Either way we all learn something new every day. Even if English is not your 1st language your understanding of the language is impressive.

Yes, that was a complement which I guess you should respond insulting and calling me mean again! because I'm never nice
